Syrian FM Meets WFP Head, Outlines Rehabilitation Efforts
The two sides also discussed the cooperation between Damascus and the WFP and the means to enhance the conditions and provide the basic humanitarian needs of the Syrian citizens affected by the eight-year war on the country by the foreign-backed terrorist groups.

“Minister Muallem reviewed the efforts exerted by the international organizations including the WFP to alleviate the difficult circumstances which the Syrian citizens are suffering from, Syria’s official news agency SANA has reported.

The FM said that the government is focusing on rehabilitation now that the war is nearing its end and much of the territories are controlled back from the terrorists’ grasp.

He highlighted the return of the refugees to their homes as the Syrian Arab Army continues to cleanse the liberated regions of the militiamen.

“We are paying great attention to the return of the refugees and the displaced and will work hard to provide them with a dignified life”, Muallem told Beasley, as cited by SANA.

For his part, Beasley thanked the Syrian government for its cooperation with the WFP and for the efforts it exerts to help the Program deliver humanitarian aid to those who need it.

WFP chief called on the world community to make more efforts to help the Syrians who are suffering plight as a result of the foreign-imposed war.

Beasley vowed that his aid agency will do as much as possible to raise funds for its program in Syria.

The Syrian government has been fighting terrorist organizations, on top of them ISIS, for eight years. The country suffered financial losses and funding powers as the US imposed sanctions on Damascus amid an anti-terror war.

Over the past two years, the government began to retake vast tracts of territories from the militants.

The war devastated the nation’s infrastructure and cut the government’s power to efficiently supply food and other aids to the war-ravaged regions.

Damascus accuses the West and its regional allies of supporting terrorism in the country that so far killed hundreds of thousands and displaced millions.

The war’s course changed since 2015 when the allies staged a more determined campaign to help the government’s fight against the terrorists. Russia, Iran, and Lebanese Hezbollah played a key role in helping Damascus restore its control over much of the country.

The West also intervened in Syria, uninvited. The Western powers tied the help to the reconstruction of Syria to the withdrawal of Iran and Russia, both joined the anti-terror battle on the behest of the Syrian government, from the country.
