Thousands protest in to demand 'transparent elections'

29 Dec 2018 07:25

Islam Times - Thousands of opposition supporters take to the streets of Dakar on Friday to demand a "free and fair" presidential election, slated for 24 February, 2019. Two opposition leaders risk to have their candidacy rejected by the Constitutional Court.

In the crowd were many supporters of Dakar's jailed mayor Khalifa Sall, and of Karim Wade, the son of former Senegalese president Abdoulaye Wade, as well as an up-and-coming opposition leader, Ousmane Sonko.

Protesters also demand for the Minister of Interior, Aly Ngouye Ndiaye, who is in charge of organizing the elections, to leave as he's seen as biased toward the ruling party.
