Islam Times - Facebook has announced the deletion of more than 450 unregistered accounts and more than 200 pages linked to the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

"We have deleted 259 accounts, 102 pages, five groups, four events and 17 Instagram accounts for participating in a coordinated campaign to disseminate false information, which began in the UAE and Egypt, targeting countries in the Middle East, North and East Africa, Libya, Sudan, the Comoros, Qatar, Turkey, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Morocco. "

According to Facebook, in addition to campaigns in the UAE and Egypt, it was possible to separately identify active participants from Saudi Arabia.

According to the website, the movements of the online campaigns, although separate, had the same objectives: "creating networks of accounts containing false information about their affiliation and activity".

According to Facebook, misleading page officials often wrote about fashion, animals and handicrafts, but they often addressed more serious issues, wrote about regional politics, elections, supported terrorist organizations by Qatar, Turkey and Iran, and published political cartoons.

The company was able to establish links between fake accounts and marketing companies in Egypt and the UAE, as well as the Saudi government, noting that the deleted pages were followed by millions of users.

And "Facebook" confirmed that it has handed over the security services data of these misleading pages.
