French President Emmanuel Macron believes that the conditions for a meeting between US and Iranian presidents have been set.

"There is a common intention to move forward not only to create conditions to stop the escalation, but to reach a long-term agreement," Macron said in a statement after meeting Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and US President Donald Trump.

The French president said in his speech to the General Assembly that it is time to resume negotiations between Iran and the United States and major powers, stressing that the strategy of pressure on Iran will only increase tension in the region.

In an interview with Fox News, Rouhani stressed that his country is committed to the NPT, noting that any negotiations must be preceded by the restoration of confidence that are lost after the US withdrawal from the nuclear deal.

Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan said Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and US President Donald Trump had asked him to communicate with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in order to help defuse tensions with Iran.
