29 Sep 2019 07:30

Islam Times - Mona, sister of Egyptian activist Alaa Abdel Fattah, said that the coup authorities arrested her brother from his home and took him to an unknown location.

Mona Saif added in a tweet on her account on Twitter: "Alaa arrested again and waiting to appear before the State Security Prosecution Department Ad Doqi .. we go back to the cycle of imprisonment."

Abdel Fattah is a blogger and one of the most prominent activists of the January Revolution, who was released by the coup authorities last March, after serving five years in prison, for being convicted of demonstrating without a license in a case dating back to 2013.

Abdel Fattah carried out a five-year security monitoring period under his final ruling in the same case, which included turning himself in to a police station at his residence for hours.

In November 2017, the Court of Cassation, the highest court of appeal and its final verdicts, upheld the Criminal Court's February 2015 sentence of 5 years' imprisonment for “gathering and violating the demonstration law” and upholding security surveillance (a precautionary measure) for five years.
