2 Oct 2019 06:19

Islam Times - Islamabad hopes Russia will be able to push the UN Security Council to settle the Kashmir dispute, the head of Pakistan's Kashmir division said on Monday.

He said in an interview with "Novosti", that the Pakistani authorities, in this regard hopes "a constructive role for Russia, and for its leadership."

The Pakistani official said that the UN Security Council appears to be idle at the moment and is doing little on the issue of Kashmir. “So we are open to mediation, but this mediation must be visionary and purposeful."

He noted that his country is grateful to Russia for its position on the conflict, which was announced during the meeting of the Security Council on 16 August. and said: “The Russian delegate was based on UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir, bilateral agreements and international law. Russia's position was therefore very constructive, our relations are improving with Russia and we have close relations."

He stressed that Pakistan, always welcomed the mediation of third parties, and stressed that India in particular, rejects the proposals of US President Donald Trump, so no progress has been made.

On August 5, the Indian government abolished the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution, which grants autonomy to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, the part of which is under its control from the region.
