Islam Times - Russia comments on possible nuclear war with US

Islam Times - Russian Ambassador to Washington, Anatoly Antonov, stressed that the outbreak of nuclear war between Russia and the United States is unrealistic in the current circumstances, stressing the need to prevent the emergence of this possibility.

"No, I absolutely disagree with those who claim that nuclear war is imminent," Antonov said at the Fort Ross Dialogue forum on Sunday, when asked if there was such a possibility.

"But we must avoid any possibility of war, that is why it is so important for us to restore all channels of communication." Antonov said.

On the other hand, the Russian ambassador to the United States stressed the need for Washington and Moscow to have serious discussions on the solution of the issue of short and medium-range missiles, pointing out that Russia will take appropriate response measures if the deployment of these weapons near its borders by the United States.

He said in this context: "We will be forced to defend our country if the United States deployed such missiles near Russia."

Antonov said: "It is time to sit in Geneva or Moscow or Washington at the negotiating table and deal very seriously with these issues."
