30 Oct 2019 09:25

Islam Times - Russia has informed Turkey that Kurdish fighters in Syria have completed their withdrawal from areas near the border, in accordance with a deal agreed between Ankara and Moscow, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday.

In a televised speech, Erdogan added that talks between Russian and Turkish officials on Syria would continue.

The Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu had said earlier that the YPG completed its withdrawal before the deadline.

Turkey and Russia had earlier agreed to withdraw Kurdish factions from the border between Syria and Turkey within 150 hours.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart signed a memorandum of understanding to stop Ankara's operations in northeastern Syria.

Erdogan accused the United States of seeking to control Syrian oil, and pointing out that his country is the only country that does not covet oil or impose its control in Syria, pointing out that the sole objective of Ankara is to expel the Kurdish YPG from the agreed area.
