Islam Times - The US State Department issued an intervention statement on the events in Iraq and called on the Iraqi government to "listen to the demands of the demonstrators and ease the strict restrictions on freedom of the press and expression."

The statement claimed that the government's investigation into the violence in early October lacked sufficient credibility.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement on Friday that Washington was closely monitoring the situation from the outset, calling on all parties to renounce the violence that accompanied the recent protests.

"With the start of efforts announced by President Barham Saleh begin, the recent severe restrictions on press freedom and expression must be eased," he said.

"The US government continues to support the Iraqi institutions and the Iraqi people and the security, stability and sovereignty of Iraq," according to the statement. However, past experience has shown that American support equates to intervening for its own interests regardless of the interests of that country and the people, and there is a lot of evidence to support this issue.

Iraqi official had demanded yesterday at Friday prayers that regional and international parties not to interfere in Iraqi affairs and the current crisis going through the country.
