The plane landed on Thursday evening at Bagram Air Force Base, carrying First Lady Melania Trump, his national security adviser, Robert O'Brien, and a small group of White House aides, Secret Service agents, and journalists, this is his first visit to Afghanistan since taking office in 2017.

In Bagram, Trump held talks with the Afghan president, during which they discussed the issue of reaching an agreement with the Taliban on the declaration of a ceasefire in the country.

Trump also met with the US military serving at Bagram, where he distributed Thanksgiving food.

In a speech from the military base, Trump said the United States was continuing negotiations with the Taliban, which he said "wants to reach a deal" on a ceasefire.

He stressed that: "We are meeting with them and telling them that a ceasefire must be declared. They did not want to do it but now, in my opinion, they want to reach it. I think that will work. ”

He also stressed that the United States is "significantly reducing" the number of troops deployed in Afghanistan.

This is the first visit by a US president to Afghanistan since 2014, when Trump's predecessor, Barack Obama, visited the country.
