Pentagon Denies Report on Trump's Intention to Send 14,000 Troops to Confront Iran

5 Dec 2019 07:16

Islam Times - The Pentagon denied reports that Washington was considering sending 14,000 US troops to the Middle East.

Pentagon spokeswoman Alyssa Fra called the report incorrect and the United States would not send new troops to the region to confront Iran.

The Wall Street Journal quoted US officials as saying the Trump administration was considering a major expansion of its military presence in the Middle East next month.

The enlargement includes sending 14,000 troops and equipment to counter Iran, the newspaper said, adding that US officials are worried about the move, which could trigger another attack or put the region on a dangerous and unpredictable course of conflict.

In addition to the 14,000 soldiers, the Pentagon could also send about a dozen additional warships to the area.
