"As far as the S-400 is concerned, its purchase may lead to sanctions. Therefore, we advise our partners to refrain from such purchases," said Joe Hood, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Middle East Affairs, on Tuesday.

The American newspaper, "The Wall Street Journal" reported earlier, quoting Iraqi parliamentarians, that the Iraqi government is considering moving forward with a discussion of buying Russian "S-400" air defense systems, against the backdrop of tensions between Baghdad and Washington after the United States hit the sites of the Hashd al Shaabi And the assassination of the commander of the Iranian "Quds Force" Qassem Soleimani and the deputy head of the PMU Abu Mahdi al Muhandis on Iraqi soil.

The Iraqi ambassador to Tehran, Saad Jawad Qandil, also stated that Iraq is negotiating with Russia on the purchase of S-300 air defense systems.

And the purchase of Russian air defense systems has already caused a crisis between Washington and Ankara.
