Bomb Blast Leaves 5 Football Players Killed in Somalia

30 Jul 2021 22:58

Islam Times - A car bomb blast near the southern Somali coastal town of Kismayo has killed at least five people.

An explosive planted on a bus carrying soccer players in Somalia's port city of Kismayo killed at least five players, a police officer said on Friday.

"We have confirmed five deaths and more than 12 injuries and we still have some players missing," Captain Ahmed Farah told Reuters by telephone from Kismayo.

Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed condemned the attack, for which he blamed al-Shabaab terrorists, and offered condolences to the families of the players.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack in the port city of Kismayo.

However, the al-Shabaab terrorist group, which is affiliated with al-Qaeda, has so far claimed responsibility for most of the bombings and terrorist attacks in Somalia and neighboring countries.
