Egyptian Social Democratic Party seeks to amend the election law

Islam Times: The letter also asked to abolish the provision of candidates of the workers and peasants party in the lists in order to leave each party to determine the order of its lists of candidates with a commitment to the representation of workers and peasants under the constitutional declaration. Also, the issuance of checks and binding rules to ensure control over the financing of propaganda and election campaigns which pushes away from Egypt the nightmare of corruption and vote-buying and bullying.

The party also asked to issue specific regulations  which can be implemented on the non-use of religious slogans and sectarianism in the election campaign and the separation of religious work from the political activity and electoral systems. It also asked for the redefining of the constituencies in the light of the foregoing, to achieve proportionate representation between different departments, and the issuance of the necessary laws to deprive those who participated in the political and financial corruption from running in upcoming elections.

The party threatened that in the case of continued insistence on holding elections under these defective terms and conditions, it will invite all political forces to consider the alternatives available to them to protect the gains and sacrifices of the Egyptian people, including the boycott of the coming elections.

The party asserted its rejection of the laws of the Organization of the upcoming parliamentary elections and the project of districting in its present form because of the chaos and disorder that this will lead to including the blocking of the will of the nation, the triumph of the power and money and partisanship at the expense of parties and political forces that represent the demands of the revolution in January.

The party stressed on the need for the government and the Supreme Council of the armed forces to provide sufficient security and protection and to restore order before the elections. It demands to prevent bloodshed and prevent violence that could disrupt the entire democratic process in Egypt.
