Russians can fight back over Syria
Question: Tell us now, where is the stand basically? Now we hear the United Nations Secretary basically saying that there should be no unilateral war whatever happens has to come from the United Nations and yet the United States is continuing its debate in Congress.

Where is the international law here? What can be done to stop Washington from trying to initiate this attack on Syria?

Glenn: Well I think at this point what has to happen is that the American people themselves have got to utilize their “freedom of speech” and they have got to make their voices heard to their government because literally no other voices around the world are going to make any difference whether it is the head of the UN, whether it is head of any sovereign country it is not going to make any difference.

Right now the only reason that the United States has not already launched these military attacks against Syria is because you have members of Congress who understand that their constituents are very much opposed to any kind of new military adventures in the Middle East. That is the only thing that is slowing this thing up.

So whether it is Ban Ki-moon, whether it is the head of the European Union, all of this really takes a backseat to the American people themselves because at the end of the day it is the American people and only the American people that the American politicians are worried about and thank God that they are because if we’re not for this fact then we already would see missiles flying in Syria.

Q: Well let’s look at the role now of the American people and do you think that they will fulfill or live up to the challenge? I am sure that majority of the people in the world are hoping that the United States does not go to war again.

Are the American people in this situation right now that they can actually put the kind of pressure meaning massive demonstrations, massive for example emails to their Congress people? Are they in a state of mind to actually do that? Do they realize the seriousness of this situation not only for the Syrian people but also for Americans too?

Glenn: Well that is a very good question and it is a very difficult question to answer because certainly if you gage this question based upon the behavior of the American people, the average person would be forced to conclude that no, the Americans do not understand the danger neither to the Syrians nor to themselves.

But at the same time the fact that there is this hesitation on the part of not only the President but upon the legislative body in United States indicates that they, meaning the government, the people who are going to be making decisions, we are going to be pushing the buttons here, that they sensed that there is something or wakening in the American people that gives them reason to pause.

So now if the American people were to, and literally just five percent of the American populist, the voting populist if they were to, they do not have to pour out into the streets. All they have to do is pick up their phones because these elected members of our government, they pay attention to the phone calls, and they pay attention to what people say.

They are very, very allergic to complaints from their constituents and so this alone I think would bring a halt to this. I think that this is the reason that like I said that we have not seen these missiles flying already.

At this point it is a big question whether or not the American people have it in them at this point to stop the war. Let us pray to God that they do.

Q: As I am speaking to you, I do have breaking news. Once again this is a warning coming out of Moscow again like the Russian President has warned the West against taking this one-sided step or action in Syria.

Now I want to look at that aspect of it, the dangers of all of this. We not only have the Syrian aspect amid of course dealing with the Syrian military but we are looking at the Russians who so far have been extremely firm and it seems that they are trying to do their best to counter any moves by the United States. How dangerous is this situation?

Glenn: Well it is very dangerous. The Russians, they can fight back. That is what makes the situation different from others that the Russians are a nuclear armed country, they are very rich in natural resources and this is basically a game that has been playing out now for many, many years at least back since 1967 when the USS Liberty was attacked in the interest of driving the Russians out of the Middle East because of course the plan was to blame this attack on Egypt which was Soviet Union’s biggest client state in the region at that time.

And so we are seeing basically a replay of all of this and that the United States and Israel are desperately trying to push the Russians out of the region permanently. The last stronghold obviously that the Russians have at least in the Arab Middle East is in Syria but certainly the close ties that Iran has with Russia has [made] the United States and Israel very concerned and so this is a very dangerous situation.

You know Vladimir Putin and more importantly the people behind him have made it clear that they are not going to be pushed around like Iraq, like Afghanistan, like Libya and like all of these other countries that the United States chooses to pick fights with who cannot fight back and I think that the Russians, they have a very long view of history here.

They are not necessarily looking into next week or next month or even next year but rather the next twenty or thirty years and they have intentions upon remaining in the region if that means that we are going to have to go to war over this issue then I think that they will do it.
