Baqeri and Tajikistan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Farrukh Sharifzadeh jointly chaired the second round of political consultations between the two countries, held in Tehran on Wednesday.

The two sides discussed a range of subjects at the meeting, including bolstering of economic ties, elevation of cultural and scientific relations, enhancing regional and international cooperation and boosting parliamentary interactions.

Baqeri hailed the agreements reached between the two sides in the first round of the meeting, held in Tajikistan, and expressed Tehran’s readiness to develop ties with Dushanbe.

He referred to regional and extra-regional security threats and highlighted the support from the United States, the Zionist regime and some European countries for extremist and terrorist groups in the region.

He said regional countries’ convergence is necessary for confronting the ominous phenomenon of terrorism, stressing the need for cooperation between Iran and Tajikistan in this regard.

The two countries should make use of the capacities of regional organizations like the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), he said.

The Tajik deputy foreign minister, for his part, voiced his country’s readiness to expand cooperation and enhance ties with Iran.

Sharifzadeh referred to the 200 cooperation documents signed by the two sides and stressed the full and effective implementations of the documents.
