Unions to rally outside High Court
Unions had earlier filed a lawsuit against the government’s shift from using the Retail Price Index (RPI) as the inflation indicator used for pension increase calculations to Consumer Price Index (CPI).

They argued that the shift will cost each worker thousands of pounds because CPI grows at a lower rate than RPI.

Now Unite, Unison, PCS, Fire Brigades Union, teachers’ union NASUWT and the Prison Officers’ Association are pushing for an appeal to the court ruling.

The six unions, which represent more than a million British public sector workers, will demonstrate outside the Royal Court of Justice in London next Monday to rally support for an appeal.

Meanwhile, the PCS is urging MPs to debate the subject in the Commons after a petition on the official government e-petition website gathered 107,000 signatures.

According to the government regulations, any petition on the website with at least 100,000 signatures will be eligible for further discussion in the parliament and by ministers.
