“Historic relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and France have prepared the ground for broad cooperation. We hope that we will witness a new era of making use of the existing potentials between Tehran and Paris,” Mehmanparast told IRNA on Monday.

He hoped that the policies of the Hollande government will correct France’s past wrong approaches.

“Sarkozy’s defeat shows the defeat of his wrong policies, particularly hostility towards regional countries and the Islamic Republic, the issue of Afghanistan and approaches to the Middle East developments,” Mehmanparast pointed out.

He emphasized that Sarkozy’s defeat also shows the defeat of the erroneous policies at a time when France’s power declined due to its reliance on and obedience to the US policies on different international issues.

Francois Hollande was elected president of France on Sunday, narrowly defeating incumbent Nicolas Sarkozy, in a two-man run-off election after he gained roughly 52 percent to 48 percent of the vote.
