Several people were also injured after a bomber rammed a car packed with explosives into a school, where Houthis had gathered for Friday Prayers.

Seven Houthi fighters and five passersby, including a woman and three children, were killed in the attack.

The toll is expected to rise especially among civilians because the school is located right in the town center, witnesses said.

The attack came hours after an attempted bomb attack on an anti-US rally in the northern province of Sa'ada was foiled. The Houthi-organized rally was held to condemn Washington's intervention in Yemen's internal affairs and the deadly US drone attacks in the country.

"We blame no one yet," Huthi spokesman Mohammed Abdulsalam said of both attacks, which he said "only serve the United States and those trying to implement" its agendas in Yemen.
