Israel threatens Tehran to win US pledge to invade Iran: Report

US media reports say the recently heightened Israeli publicity stunt about waging an imminent attack on Iran actually aims at winning an American pledge of attacking Iran during the sensitive election season.
 
“Some say that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is bluffing in hopes of forcing [US] President [Barack] Obama to issue an ultimatum to Iran that America would do the job itself later,” the American daily the Washington Post reported in an article.
 
“Analysts suggest that Netanyahu is looking for a (specific) deadline on abandoning talks and resorting to military action,” the article notes.
 
According to the report, other analysts argue that the Netanyahu’s recently hyped-up rhetoric of threat reflects his distrust in the Obama administration as well as the seemingly friendlier Republican presidential contender Mitt Romney of launching a military strike against Iran.
 
    “A new war in the Middle East would be deeply unpopular among American voters,” the paper underlines. “Even talk of an imminent conflict with Iran could spike gas prices and unsettle the financial markets, possibly worsening the already standstill economy weeks before the November election.”
 
 
Quoting analysts and former officials in both the US and the Israeli regime, the paper makes clear that Israelis are trying to manipulate the American presidential election “to seek an explicit statement from Obama that the United States would launch its own attack as early as next year if the talks (between Iran and the P5+1 powers) collapse.”
 
The wealthy Pro-Israeli lobby groups in Washington have persistently used their power in influencing political campaigns and exerting leverage over elected US officials to win favors for the Tel Aviv regime.
 
Meanwhile, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad lashed out at Obama during a Friday address marking the International Day of Quds ceremonies for failing to remain committed to his change slogan and urged American authorities to avoid giving into Israeli pressures and act independently to serve the interests of the American nation.
 
“Westerners are after [the establishment] of a new Middle East. We are also after a new Middle East which will definitely be formed … but in this new Middle East, there will be no trace of the US and Zionists,” President Ahmadinejad pointed out.
