Iraqi journalist denounces MEK and its involvement with terrorism
As the MEK grabbed the headlines again, the veteran journalist was keen to point out that the very presence of the MEK on Iraqi soil had led to much controversy, anger and most of all tensions as MEK leaders have always harboured strong ties with various terror militias.

He stressed that the recent rocket attack which took place late in December needs to be understand as the manifestation of popular anger.

Abdul-Zahra noted that the MEK has long been associated in Iraq with treason, terrorism and villainy.

While the MEK's leadership has resided in Paris, France, the group's core members were for many years confined to Camp Ashraf in Iraq, and were disarmed in the wake of the U.S.-led invasion and are said to have adhered to a ceasefire. The group's remaining 3,200 members were recently compelled to move to ex-U.S. military base Camp Liberty. The organization has been designated in Iraq and Iran as a terror organization.

When late President Saddam Hussein ruled over Iraq, the MEK quite openly supported his dictatorship and policies, a fact the people of Iraq have had a hard time digesting, given the crimes its militants have been associated with.

The journalist noted that Saudi Arabia willingly delayed any resolution to Camp Liberty as to maintain some degree of pressure onto neighbouring Iran and the Iraqi government, playing regional agendas and tensions to its advantage.
