UN, Syria aid workers leave Homs after clashes
The convoy, which was carrying humanitarian supplies to militant-held areas in the Old City of Homs, came under attack on Saturday.

Reports said four members of the Syrian Red Crescent and a truck driver were injured after mortars and shots were fired at the convoy.

Local media and government forces blamed militants for the attacks that violated a three-day cease-fire aimed at allowing civilians to leave the area and aid supplies to get in.

The Syrian national television quoted Homs Governor Talal al-Barazi as saying that two vehicles carrying aid supplies had entered the Old City, but militants had targeted the route with mortar fire and prevented more vehicles from entering.

The aid deliveries as well as earlier evacuation of people were parts of a three-day ceasefire brokered by the UN between the Syrian army and the foreign-backed militants.

On Friday, 83 women, children and elderly people trapped in the beleaguered city were bussed out to a safe zone.

The deal also allows the entrance of humanitarian assistance for civilians who choose to stay. The two sides had also agreed on a pause in fighting as the deal is being implemented.

Since March 2011, Syria has been gripped by deadly violence that has reportedly resulted in the death of more than 130,000 people. Millions of Syrians have also been displaced due to the unrest fueled by Western-backed militants.
