The Afghan Defense Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday that about 25 others were also injured in the operations, while four militants were detained.

According to the statement, the militants were killed in different districts of the provinces of Nangarhar, Zabul, Kabul, Paktia, Urozgan, Kunduz, Helmand and Herat as well as the city of Kandahar.

Afghan forces also seized and defused different types of improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

At least 14 Afghan National Army soldiers also lost their lives during the operations.

The announcement comes two days after nearly 40 Taliban militants, including one commander, were killed in airstrikes carried out by Afghan and US-led forces in Helmand Province’s district of Mosa Qala.

Afghanistan continues to face insecurity 14 years after the US and its allies invaded the country as part of Washington’s so-called war on terror. Although the invasion removed the Taliban from power, many areas in the country are still beset with insecurity.
