Defeat of ISIS in Mosul Victory for Humanity: Iran’s Quds Force Cmdr.

The commander of the Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) made the remark in Tehran during a ceremony on Monday to mark the 40th day of the martyrdom anniversary of General Haj Shaaban Nassiri who was killed by Takfiri terrorists during the battle to liberate Mosul. The late Haj Nassiri was part of Quds Force officers providing military advice to Iraqi forces. Major General Soleimani eulogized Haj Nassiri as the first general of the Islamic Republic of Iran who attained martyrdom serving the Iraqi nation.
 
The Quds Force Commander said ISIS is one of the most dangerous entities which the world has ever faced, adding that, “The dark and evil phenomena called ISIS has caused the world of Islam great damages.”
 
He further hailed the volunteer fighters from the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU), commonly known by their Arabic name Hashd al-Sha’abi, for their hard work towards ejecting the ISIS from Mosul.
 
The Quds Force Commander pointed out that the formation of PMU was the result of a Fatwa issued by Grand Ayatollah Sistani that led to rare unity among Iraqis in which young Shiite Muslims went to rescue their Sunni brethren. Maj. Gen. Soleimani also appreciated the decision by the Iraqi Parliament to recognize the PMU as an official security force in the country.
 
Last week, PMU spokesman Karim al-Nouri noted that Iran and especially Maj. Gen. Soleimani played a significant role in Iraq’s victories against ISIS.
 
"Iran was the first country to stand with Iraq and support us. General Qassem Soleimani has been and continues to serve as the best adviser on the battlefield against ISIS,” he said.
 
"There were not many Iranians, but the very few who were in Iraq have had a huge impact on the fight against ISIS through presenting good strategies,” he added.
 
Nouri said Soleimani’s occasional presence on the frontline always ignited a wave of panic and fear among ISIS terrorists and leading to Iraqi victories.
 
On Monday Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi formally declared victory of the country’s forces over the ISIS Takfiri terrorist group one day after the country’s military and PMU took full control of Mosul.
 
Meanwhile Lise Grande, the United Nations' Humanitarian Coordinator for Iraq has said the Mosul’s basic infrastructure will cost more than $1 billion to repair.
