US President Donald Trump, responding to a question about the situation in Egypt, said that "The occurrence of some demonstrations is not a concern."

"These things don't worry me, they are all over the world," Trump said during a meeting with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on the sidelines of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly on Monday night.

Trump described President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi as the great leader, saying: ""Egypt has a great and respected leader, and before he assumed his duties there was chaos in the country."

A few weeks ago, Trump reportedly referred to Sisi as "my favorite dictator."

Trump's praise comes days after widespread protests erupted in many Egyptian cities after an Egyptian contractor, who had worked with senior Egyptian officials for years, posted social media videos detailing alleged corruption among Sisi's associates.

Several Egyptian cities, including Cairo and Alexandria, are witnessing protests during which citizens demanded the departure of President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, while authorities responded with tear gas to disperse the demonstrators and have arrested dozens of them, according to international news agencies.
