A statement issued by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage, published in the local newspaper "Okaz" Saudi Arabia, confirmed the abolition of the requirement to oblige all Saudis to prove the family record when registering in hotels. She added that foreign tourists are not required to do so and that all women, including Saudi women, can book and stay in hotels without a mahram, once they show their identity card upon registration.

Saudi activist Turki al-Shalhoub described on his own account on the social network "Twitter" described the decision as a break with the values of society.
