Thousands stage anti-govt. rally in Cairo
Islam Times reports from Press TV: Around 5,000 protesters, including the families of those killed during the revolution, gathered in Liberation Square on Friday.

They called for the trial of police officers involved in the killings.

Some urged an end to military trials of civilians while others wanted the resignation of current Minister of Interior Mansour el-Essawy.

Protesters accuse the ruling military council of Mubarak-era tactics to crush dissent.

They have strongly condemned the Interior Ministry's use of violence in the most recent clashes. Over 1,000 people were injured in the scuffles between security forces and protesters in Cairo on June 29-30.

The demonstrators' main demand is the speedy and open trial of old regime officials. Egyptian protesters say Mubarak and his associates must be tried for killing more than 800 protesters during the popular uprising.

They have also demanded the execution of former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly for ordering the killing of protesters during the revolution, which led to former dictator Hosni Mubarak's ouster on February 11.

Following Mubarak's downfall, a military council took over in Egypt. Many Egyptians believe it is trying to derail the uprising.

Activists also demand the release of political prisoners and the disbandment of the military court.

Egyptians are still skeptical about a rapid transition towards democracy and civilian rule and maintain that demonstrations will continue until all their demands are met.
