Salehi: We are Still Acting Within the Framework of the Nuclear Agreement

Salehi made the statement after arriving on Saturday in the province of Bushehr, where the Russian Federal Atomic Energy Agency, Rosatom, is overseeing the construction of the second and third units at the Bushehr nuclear power plant.

Salehi said that the European signatories and the United States, which pulled out of the deal, were concerned that Iran was moving ahead with a reduction in its obligations under the deal, because it showed the country was strengthening its capabilities, which were "latent until they became tangible."

He added that the Europeans and Americans are in a state of confusion because they thought that Iran does not have such capabilities.

"We were not the initiators of non-compliance, they were the ones who did not abide by their commitments," he said. "Of course, the Islamic Republic of Iran was not satisfied with the nuclear deal becoming one way."

Salehi stressed that Iran does not go beyond the provisions of the agreement when it gradually renounces its nuclear obligations, pointing out that all its steps are consistent with Article 26 of the document, which gives it this right in case the other party does not fulfill its obligations.
