Royal navy commander jailed for fraud
Islam Times: Commander Anthony Gray a Nuclear Submarine expert based at Abbey Wood in Bristol claimed the money for sending his children to boarding school.

The claims for continuity education allowance were made between July 2008, and March 2010 and a court martial last month found him guilty of nine charges under the fraud act.

He was cleared of four other charges.

Commander Gray and his wife had split up in July 2007. They sold the family home, and therefore he was not entitled to the allowance, as he was no longer prime carer for the children.

The prosecutor said he had dishonestly completed the application form, that he was a senior naval officer not someone who struggled with literacy.

His former wife gave evidence for the prosecution during the court martial saying she had been left without any financial support.

Commander Gray’s defence said he felt he was still the “prime mover” because he paid for a lot of the children’s expenses and that he’d been advised he was still allowed to claim.

He was sentenced today at the court martial centre at Portsmouth Naval Base and jailed for six months.
