Canadian Resources Minister to Chinese: We want access to your market in return for crude.
Islam Times: Oliver was complaining that certain Canadian companies have hard time getting permits to do business in China. He would not say which companies he was referring to but said many were involved in mining. "If we want to build a long-term strategic relationship with China, which
we do, and which the Chinese have said they want to build with us, it has to be based on mutual respect, reciprocity and equality," Oliver told Reuters in an interview.

China is investing big time in the oil-rich tar sands of Alberta. The sites are home to the third largest oil reserves in the world. Chinese firms have bought an astounding $5.5 billion worth of energy assets and are looking to buy more.

Oliver cited amongst other things, an evolving Chinese legal system that makes it hard for Canadian companies to figure out where they stand on acquisition rights and other issues.
