Sheikh Wagdy Ghoneim: Abu Fotouh a liberal candidate and not an Islamic one
In his letter, he addressed the elders of the “Salafi call” saying it is not wrong to make a mistake, but it is wrong to go through with it.

Sheikh Ahmad Farid had called the elders of the “Salafi call” in the issue of supporting (Abu Foutouh), maintaining the right to differ as it emphasizes the Islamic approach, away from the atmosphere of accusation and slander and distortion, and preserving the affection and Islamic morality.

Sheikh Farid addressed Dr. Safwat Hijazi saying: perhaps this is a good thing, especially since you are not able to ascertain whether it is better to support Morsi or Abu Foutouh, we both worked hard, I could be right or wrong and so could you.

He ended his speech by saying: I said that these days (before the presidential elections) we could agree on one candidate if the elections were run again.

Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Maksoud was quoted saying that Dr. Mohamed Morsi is the only one who holds the Islamic project, Sheikh Ghoneim responded by saying that Abdel Moneim Abu Foutouh said that he is not an Islamic candidate.

Then Sheikh Wagdy Ghoneim counted for the elders of the "Salafi call", the statements upon which Dr. Abdel Moneim Abu Fotouh’s support is refused. These statements include the possibility of the democratic cancellation of the religious law supported by the second amendment of the Constitution and more importantly the statement of recognizing Israel.

Then he addressed Dr. Ahmed Farid saying that this candidate you are supporting once criticized your extremism. He added that he personally chose Morsi even though they have their differences, but his differences with Abu Foutouh are bigger.

Sheikh Wagdy Ghoneim’s message kept the spirit of brotherhood and respect between him and the elders, even though he stressed of their disagreements in supporting Abu Foutouh.
