On Thursday, Saif al-Islam made a brief court appearance in the northwestern city of Zintan, located some 150 kilometers (93 miles) southwest of the capital Tripoli.

He is facing a string of charges, including threatening national security and escaping from prison.

Saif al-Islam has been held in Zintan since he was captured in November 2011 while trying to flee the country.

It was his second court appearance since the case began in January. The trial has been adjourned to September 19.

Saif al-Islam is also wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for crimes against humanity over the killing of civilian protesters during mass demonstrations against his father, who was toppled in 2011 after ruling the country for over forty years.

Libyans rose up against Muammar Gaddafi in February 2011 and deposed him in August 2011.
