The report suggests the world's most wanted terrorist was killed on Saturday in ISIS de Facto capital in Syria.

However, it is not the first time the leader of ISIS has been reported dead - and the story could turn out to be unfounded.

Amaq, the terror group's official media wing, has not confirmed the news.

Baghdadi was hiding out in Iraqi city of Mosul in northern Iraq, but intelligence agencies believe he escaped from the city while it was being liberating by the Iraqi army, suggesting that fled to Raqqa.

In January it was reported the terrorist leader, who has a $25million bounty on his head, had been 'critically injured in airstrikes in northern Iraq.

In April a documentary claimed Baghdadi has avoided capture by Iraqi special forces “by minutes” after escaping through a trapdoor.

That revelation came just days after al-Baghdadi’s deputy Ayad al-Jumaili was killed in an air strike.

According to an official Iraqi government document, al-Baghdadi was born in Samarra in Iraq in 1971. He apparently joined the insurgency that erupted after the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq and spent time in an American military prison.
