Aoun warns about foreign interference in Syria
Aoun described through his speech the sequence of events which led to his alliance with Hezbollah, saying that we stood with the resistance during the 2006 summer war because we cannot be neutral when our people are being killed by Israel.

Aoun also stressed the importance of having a just electoral law based on proportional representation saying that all sides will be given their accurate share of representation.

People taking part in the rally said that they are steadfast in their support for Aoun.

Aoun is considered to have the biggest bloc in the Lebanese parliament. Latest statements by the March 14th coalition have suggested that Aoun has lost some of his popularity as a result of his stances.

Although Michel Aoun's alliance with Hezbollah and his latest statements against any interference in Syria have earned him enemies both abroad and at home, his support among the Christian community in Lebanon seems untouched, making him the most popular Christian leader in the country.

Perhaps the most significant stance which Aoun has taken since leaving the March 14th coalition in 2005 was his insistence that Syria’s Assad is best for the well-being of Lebanon and Lebanese Coexistence. Analysts believe now Michel Aoun is not alone on this view.

Maronite Patriarch Beshara Raei has warned that drastic changes inside Syria could threaten minorities in the region.
