Hamas Calls Iran's Retaliatory Strike on Israel, 'Natural Right'

Hamas in a statement said: "We in Hamas regard the military operation conducted by the Islamic Republic of Iran a natural right and a deserved response on the crime of targeting the Iranian consulate in Damascus and the assassination of several leaders of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps,"

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a retaliatory strike on multiple locations in Israel, in response to an Israeli terrorist attack on the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria on 1 April 2024.

On 1 April 2024, an Israeli airstrike destroyed the Iranian embassy in Damascus, Syria, killing 16 people, including a senior Quds Force commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), Brigadier General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, a senior commander along with six other IRGC officers. Six Syrian civilians also were killed in the attack.

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces in an interview with the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting stated that last night's hybrid operation of drones and missiles against Zionists changed the equation of response to the Israeli regime.

Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, Mohammad Bagheri added that in last night's massive operation, the Israeli regime's military, intelligence and logistics sites which were used in the attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, were targeted.
